Wacholder, Lambert To Visit Cincinnati

Pro Beach Volleyball stars in town promoting the upcoming 2006 AVP Crocs Cup Cincinnati Open grand finale

CINCINNATI (OH) Greater Cincinnati volleyball fans will get an early peak at a couple of the top players on the AVP Crocs Pro Beach Volleyball Tour presented by Liftoff when Rachel Wacholder and Mike Lambert visit Cincinnati on Aug. 16.

A press conference is scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the Beach Waterpark in Mason, Ohio, and all media are invited to attend. Both will be available for individual interviews following lunch.

Wacholder and Lambert will discuss the AVP Tour and the upcoming season-ending grand finale of the 2006 AVP Crocs Cup Cincinnati Open at Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, Aug. 31-Sept. 3. The pair is also in town for part of the day to help spread goodwill in the community with visits planned to Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House to interact with residents and patients, sign autographs and pose for pictures.

Cincinnati Bell has graciously donated pairs of AVP Crocs shoes for Lambert and Wacholder to distribute to the patients of Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House upon their visits. CROCS, Inc. is the title sponsor and official footwear of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour and is a leading manufacturer and marketer of a new breed of comfort footwear.

Sponsors and special guests are also scheduled to speak at the press conference including Jack Ryan of charitable sponsor G.E. Aviation, Dr. David Stern of UC/Barrett Cancer Center, Cheryl Roysdon of the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Scott Usitalo of Cincinnati USA Regional Tourism Network.

Wacholder is playing in her seventh season on the Tour. The 2005 campaign was considered a breakout year for Wacholder as she established herself as one of the top AVP women on Tour. Playing with former partner Elaine Youngs, they won three tournaments including the Cincinnati Open, where they put a halt to the 50-match win streak held by Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. Wacholder was named the Best Defensive Player and the Most Improved Player in 2005.

"Lambo" or the "Hawaiian Curtain" as he is fondly known by his rivals on the AVP Tour has taken the beach volleyball community by storm in only his fourth professional season. This season he has won twice with partner Stein Metzger and the duo reached the final four of the first eight events. The 6'6" Lambert captured three first place finishes last year including the Cincinnati Open, winning with then-partner John Hyden. Lambert was third on the Tour in blocks in 2005 (with 334) while ranking fifth in kills percentage (.594) and ninth in hitting percentage (.434).
