CINCINNATI USA LANDS SEASON-ENDING
FINALE
OF THE AVP PRO BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES FOR 2006
CINCINNATI, Oct. 17, 2005 – Cincinnati USA has scored a major ace by
landing the prestigious season-ending finale of the AVP Pro Beach
Volleyball Championship Series for Labor Day weekend, 2006.
The AVP Tour returned
to Cincinnati over the July 4th weekend in 2005.
Overwhelming local support from the community and media convinced the
operators of the tour to “upgrade” the event for ’06.
A collaborative “jump
serve” by agencies promoting the region secured the event. Agencies
participating in the proposal included the Warren County Convention &
Visitors Bureau, the Cincinnati USA Regional Tourism Network and Reach
Event Marketing, who staged the enormously successful AVP Nissan Series
this past summer at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
Dates for the AVP Pro
Beach Volleyball Championship Series finale are Thursday, Aug.31,
through Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006. More than 150 of the top professional
beach volleyball athletes are expected to compete in the prestigious
tournament. NBC Sports will broadcast the men’s and women’s finals LIVE
nationwide.
“We are very excited
to come to the Cincinnati-region once again this year and play amongst
all its supportive fans,” said Commissioner Leonard Armato. “The area
has a great volleyball community and what a better time to enjoy
first-rate beach volleyball than Labor Day weekend at our season-ending
event!”
Bob Slattery,
president of Reach Event Marketing, said his event team is anxious to
build on the 2005 success. “Securing the prestigious finale of the AVP
Pro Beach Volleyball Championship Series is a major coup for Mason and
the entire region,” Slattery said, “Injecting the event into the Labor
Day weekend here, with the WEBN Fireworks and all the other activities,
will electrify Cincinnati USA and make our region the cool and hip place
to be.”
Officials noted
securing the event was due to a solid game plan and numerous assists by
participating agencies to convince the AVP that their prestigious finale
belonged in Cincinnati USA.
“Hosting the AVP
during the Labor Day weekend builds on the essence of what a “Great
American Holiday” is all about said Shirley Bonekemper executive
director of the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau. What could
be better than world-class volleyball, great attractions and fireworks
all in one exciting weekend? We can certainly expect substantial
attendance and overnight business from our travel markets. The
tremendous economic impact of the AVP will be felt throughout the entire
region. This event is yet another example of the strong sporting
destination that Mason has become. What an explosive culmination to a
great weekend of beach volleyball and fireworks for our region.”
“We are looking
forward to promoting the blasts on our riverfront with the blasts of the
AVP pros on the beach in Mason,” said Scott Usitalo, newly named
president of the Regional Tourism Network. Usitalo said combining the
AVP Championships with the WEBN Fireworks fits perfectly with the RTN’s
strategy of creating “fusion weekends” for the 2006 calendar.
“The Regional Tourism
Network, the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau and a number of
convention and visitors bureaus in the region are poised to help make
the second coming of the AVP Tour a blast of epic proportions,” Usitalo
said. “AVP fans in our feeder cities of Dayton, Columbus, Lexington,
Louisville and Indianapolis are very interested in attending an AVP
season finale as well as the WEBN fireworks.”
The public will be
notified when tickets to the event are about to go on sale.
